Acton was knocked around for four runs while notching just one out in Sunday's loss to the White Sox, and he finds himself back in the minors a day later. He's clearing off the active roster to make space for the return of Joe Ryan (glute).

Acton yielded five runs (two earned) with a 9:3 K:BB over 6.2 innings with the Twins earlier this season, and he's logged a 2.55 ERA and 23:8 K:BB in 17.2 frames with St. Paul. The 28-year-old will give the Twins a fresh arm in middle relief.

This move won't become official until rosters expand Tuesday. Acton fared well in his previous stint with the Twins earlier in the season, allowing two runs on four hits while walking three and striking out nine over 6.2 frames out of the bullpen before landing on the injured list April 28 due to a right shoulder strain.

The Twins reinstated Acton (shoulder) from the 60-day injured list Saturday and optioned him to Triple-A St. Paul, Dan Hayes of The Athletic reports.

Acton landed on the injured list in late April with a strained right shoulder but began playing in rehab games July 11. Since then, he's given up four runs in 9.2 innings across three levels. Now fully healthy, he'll stay put at Triple-A and provide organizational bullpen depth.

Acton made the second appearance of his rehab assignment, this time pitching for the Twins' FCL club after he previously tossed a scoreless inning for Single-A Fort Myers over the weekend. The righty had a rough showing Tuesday, retiring just two of the six batters he faced while serving up a three-run home run. Acton has been on the shelf since April 28 due to a right shoulder strain and will need more time on the farm to shake off rust before he rejoins the Minnesota bullpen.
