Rogers was DFA'd by Boston earlier in the week after the Red Sox activated Adley Rutschman from the injured list. Rogers will be joining his fourth team in the last 17 days after originally being DFA'd by Detroit at the end of July, then getting a very brief stint with Baltimore. Rogers will help handle catching duties while Chicago waits for Kyle Teel (ankle) and Joey Bart (hand) to get healthy.

Rogers played in just two games for Boston, going 3-for-6 with two doubles, an RBI, four runs scored, a walk and two strikeouts. The 31-year-old may need to find a new home, possibly his fourth different organization this year, once he clears waivers.

Rogers made his Red Sox debut Wednesday against the White Sox but made his first start with his new team in Friday's series opener. He contributed immediately with an RBI double in the second inning and tied a season high in runs scored that he set twice before Friday's contest. Rogers will continue to serve as Boston's backup catcher behind Connor Wong, though the former's playing time will take a sizable hit once Adley Rutschman (wrist) is cleared to return from the 10-day injured list. That could come sooner rather than later, as Rutschman has been given the green light to embark on a rehab assignment Saturday, per Mac Cerullo of the Boston Herald.

Rogers will be on the move for the second time in less than a week, after he played in just three games for the Orioles after being acquired from the Tigers last Thursday. While with Boston, he'll likely form a timeshare with Connor Wong at catcher in the short term, but Rogers could be in danger of being designated for assignment once Rutschman is ready to come off the injured list. Between his stops with Detroit and Baltimore, Rogers has posted an abysmal .163/.270/.296 batting line over 116 plate appearances, but he's valued mainly for his game-calling ability and defensive savvy more so than anything he does with the bat.

The Tigers traded Rogers to the Orioles in exchange for pitching prospect Zane Barnhart on Thursday.
