The right-hander was dominant over 67 pitches (46 strikes), but an early hook from manager Kevin Cash nearly cost the Rays when Ty Johnson gave up the tying run in the top of the sixth inning. Jax has been held under 70 pitches in all three of his September starts following a month-long absence due to elbow discomfort, but the strict workload limit appears to be working, as he's given up just one run in 10 innings over his last two trips to the mound with a 9:1 K:BB. Jax will look to stay stingy in his next outing, which lines up to come at home this weekend against the Red Sox.

Jax was still a bit limited in his second start back from an elbow issue, as he only threw 66 pitches (45 strikes) but still got through five innings with the only damage against him coming via a Drake Baldwin solo homer. The righty improved his ERA to 3.99 and WHIP to 1.24 over 99.1 innings with the efficient performance. The 31-year-old Jax is slated to pitch next week against the Athletics at home, presumably still with a limited workload.

Jax (6-10) took the loss against the Mets on Wednesday, allowing six runs (three earned) on seven hits and two walks while striking out one batter across 2.2 innings.

Jax was activated from the 15-day injured list ahead of Wednesday's start after a one-month absence due to elbow discomfort. He put the Rays on the back foot early by allowing three runs in the first inning before giving up three more runs in the third frame on a bases-clearing double by Brett Baty. Jax threw just 63 pitches and will likely have a limited workload again for his next turn through the rotation, which lines up for next week on the road against Atlanta.

The right-hander has been shelved since early August with elbow discomfort but came out of his lone rehab start with no issues. Jax threw only 42 pitches in that outing, so his workload will be limited Wednesday.

The Rays plan to reinstate Jax (elbow) from the 15-day injured list and have him start Wednesday's game against the Mets at Tropicana Field, Marc Topkin of the Tampa Bay Times reports.

The right-hander threw 42 pitches across three innings during his lone rehab start Aug. 23 with Triple-A Durham, then completed a four-inning simulated game Friday, per MLB.com. With Jax's right elbow checking out fine following the sim game, he's been cleared to rejoin the Tampa Bay rotation, though he could have some light workload limitations in place Wednesday. The 31-year-old pitched incredibly well over his last three starts before landing on the IL on Aug. 9, logging a 1.62 ERA, 0.96 WHIP and 23:4 K:BB across 16.2 frames.
